Understanding the Role of BXF in Modern BIM Workflows

While BIM is the mainstream in recent years, it has eventually stimulated better practices with complexities tailgating along. BIM workflows include the method for data transmission between the software solutions used for a project. With this context in this blog, let’s discuss the eminence and role of BXF in the modern BIM workflows. 

What is BXF? 

Before speaking about the role of BXF in BIM workflows, let us reveal what BXF is and how it is related to BIM workflows. BXF is the native proprietary file format of BIMDeX, an interoperability solution, built to transfer various designs and the data from one software to another. 

The BXF file format enables interoperable model conversion, capturing all the essential design data information of the models from respective software and replicating the same in another BIM or CAD software. 

Need for an Interoperable model conversion (BXF- A File format of BIMDeX) 

Considering primitive times, it was always a tedious task to translate a model or the associated data from one software to another; there were misconceptions in the model, or the data being translated. The main reason behind this is the incompatible model translation methods, software solutions, and the respective file formats.

BIMDeX plugins for exporter and importer can be installed in SolidWorks and Revit applications, respectively. Once installed, the workflow can be initiated, where the manufacturing models from SolidWorks can be transferred to the BIM interface of Revit.

  • Material details, part numbers, and LODs are carefully captured and transferred to the recipient software.

  • The data in the BXF files created from the BIMDeX exporters can be edited and managed in a separate application called BIMDeX Manager. This enables users to update the design data information and simplify the design easily before conversion.
